THE WHATThe Sunflower Project is a platform with a mission to promote a future without sexual violence and to be an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and the organizations that support them.

THE WHYSunflowers are nature’s symbol of grace under pressure: through the heat and drought of summer, they persevere and stand tall. They are beautiful individually and standing with dozens of other sunflowers. Survivors of sexual assault are just that: each survivor has the opportunity to heal and thrive after their assault. Survivors have the ability to empower other survivors and by that, raise awareness of an increasing issue in the United States.

What is a Sunflower Day? Sunflower Days are when we go out into the communities and have discussions about sexual violence the best way we know how: by giving out sunflowers! Tied to each sunflower is an information card about the sexual violence in America as well as information on about our website and resources for survivors. Even if someone doesn't have time to speak to us, they take home a beautiful sunflower to brighten their way and receive education about sexual violence from the card. |

What is the current status of sexual violence in America?
According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN), every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. 1 out of every 6 women will be the victim of attempted or completed sexual violence in her lifetime, and these statistics increase to 25% for women who are enrolled in college. Survivors have reported various short and long term effects their assault has had on their day to day life such as inability to trust others, shame, guilt, depression, anxiety, addiction, and much more. Approximately 2 out of 3 rapes go unreported, and out of 1000 reported cases, 994 perpetrators walk free.
